The Foolishness of Man

So I guess you've heard alcoholic drinks are to carry new warning labels in a move to make drinkers more aware of the risks. What??? Prior to this, the British Government issued new guidance saying pregnant women and those trying to conceive should not drink at all!! Say What?? The move the Government said comes amid fears about the rise in binge drinking and an increase in alcohol-related diseases and death. Ok.. so the Government's response to this is therefore to baby sit us all! Please tell me what the sense in this is? So drink labels will now carry big fat stickers with the warning 'Alcohol kills' or some such nonsense! Much like ciggies do at the moment... O I forgot to mention that the label will include 1 more warning 'Alcohol is dangerous for Pregnant women and nursing mothers'! OTT you say? I agree!
Now it's said that that the recommended 'dosage' is 4 units and 3 units per day for men and women respectively. Thus all bottles must carry the unit measurement on them.. however it's not that simple as units are dependent on the alcohol content/percentage, so does this then not confuse the general populace more? I give up! I think the government needs to butt out of people's lives and let them live as they wish.. hey if a few people (in 2005 figures were 3,884 men and 1,873 women) want to kill themselves.. I say let them! Might free up the earth's limited resources. Sounds cold.. but hey the amount of time and money we 'waste' on these people could be better directed to motherless and at risk kids, as well as the aged and homeless! These group of people will definitely better appreciate the assistance given them.. and might even pray for you!
What about me you say? Do I drink? Yes I do.... now and again... always have a bottle or two at home.. but I don't go crazy! Infact I can go months without a drop.. and trust me it's not like am trying to quit drinking. But the truth is you can't stop people from drinking, like you can't stop them from smoking. I have a couple of friends who smoke and each time they bring out their pack of fags (as in pack of cigarettes - what did you think I was talking about?? Duh!) I point out to them the LARGE black sticker which carries the warning 'SMOKING KILLS'! They remind me that there are people who inhale (and that's what I can call it ) 40-50 sticks a day who are in their 60s or 70s and hale and hearty! ... Well, I can't argue with that... as long as you're not blowing your cancer breath in my very pretty face! Afterall second smoke aka passive smoking kills too! Anyway where am i going to with all this... it's time for people to take responsibility for their own lives and not expect to be hand-fed from birth to death! Grip the hand of life like a man (or woman) and make the most of everything that gets thrown (or not) at you. See what you get when you visit my blog... life lessons from 'boo... cool eh? O and you're welcome

Now onto more serious issues.... Apparently in Nigeria, the outgoing President (Baba who REALLY needs to retire to his farm ASAP and enjoy what's left of his life after 8 years in office) as a leaving present (3 days to departure) hiked fuel (petrol) prices up from N65 to N75 per litre (which to us in the UK is increasing prices from £0.26 to £0.30 per litre ... if only we could actually pay that for fuel... o well) a 15.4 % margin, all as a revenge tactic against the incoming President Umaru Yar'Adua! Seems like Baba wanted his 'son in whom he is pleased' (or shall I say 'was') to appoint a couple of 'his own' people into ministerial positions and the son kicked against it... Well Baba as we know was not pleased and it is said he stopped speaking to him... such childish behaviour from an 'elder'!.. Apparently, the fuel hike was supposed to have been kept quiet until after the inauguration on Tuesday May 29th (yes tomorrow) ... But alas, bad news always, always gets out FAST!.. Just you ask Tony (the globe trotter) Blair! Obasanjo says he had made the change now to avoid saddling the new government with an unsustainable level of subsidy on prices.. yeah, whatever!
Well we hope Yar'Adua delivers all that he has promised in terms of Education, Health and Improving Social standing. Being the first graduate President that Nigeria has had, let us hope that he makes good his promises and does well for the country as opposed to all his predecessors.

O still on Nigerian matters, the joke of the day is in Abia state. Theodore Orji, an associate of Outgoing governor Orji Uzor Kalu, who won last month's elections for state governor (while in police custody, courtesy of the EFCC - have you ever heard such rubbish), was sworn in as Governor days earlier than scheduled! He was freed on bail last Friday, ahead of tomorrow's inauguration ceremony, and handed the mantle of the state by his 'friend' Governor Kalu (who has also been suspected of corruption) who had earlier stepped down and has now reportedly fled the country! Well he obviously had to, his immunity was coming to an end and in order to have continuity (in corruption at least) he had to get his 'man' in early enough to protect him....and to cover his (Kalu's) backside. Afterall.. ALL the evidence will be covered now!!! i hope they pay for their crimes.. all the countries 'hiding' them should arrest them ALL!!.. You listening UK and USA... cos these are the countries they are most likely to run to and spend their ill-gotten funds! Remember fellas.. Everyday is for the thief and one day for the owner of the house!

Well what can I say, tomorrow marks the beginning of another milestone in Nigeria's life... we pray and hope that this new chapter brings renewed hope and concrete evidence of delivered promises. Here's to our new President... Umaru Yar'Adua. May you prove yourself worthy for this great role. May your years as President for Nigeria be years filled with great hope and more importantly evidence of good things and even better things to come!

Adios people..

As New Seasons Approach

So the winner of American Idol Season 6 has been announced... Ladies and Gentlemen.. welcome your American Idol winner 2007 - Miss Jordin (Well yeah, the Americans can't spell either) Sparks! Well I must congratulate her.... still wish it was Melinda Doolittle.. but then we can't all have our wishes granted, now can we? But I wish Jordin well in the industry... keep smiling girl and don't let the Grammys' and music awards get to your head, OK? I did enjoy the show, especially the part where Jay-Z showed up on stage and beat bopped with Blake... cool... I must admit, the guy is GOOD! He'll go far.. infact they all will and when I say all, I do mean the last 5 - Melinda, Lakisha, Chris, Blake and Jordin... I certainly am NOT referring to the likes of Sanjaya!! How on earth he managed to stay in the competition that long is beyond moi! Infact how he made it into the top 12 must be investigated to prevent this kind of thing happening again....I guess we'll have to wait for Season7 to see what happens.... hope we have as much 'entertainment' as we did in this last one... keep up the 'good' work Simon, Randy and Paula

On a lighter note... Ugly Betty Season finale is on, but will let you into a little secret.. Season 2 or is it 3 now runs on Channel 4 on next Wednesday @10.15pm...stay tuned for more updates.

And on a 'wish I never knew' note, Big brother 7 begins in 5 very SHORT days! I hear this year the house is filled with transsexuals... we'll soon find out.

O well.. time for my beauty nap.... have a 'by-invitation' only wedding to attend.. :-) look at me, moving on up in the world eh... what can I say.... hopefully I won't be too tired to report back tomorrow and make up for this rather boring blogdate (update in blog terms - hey I have to start coining my own terms, might just make it into the Oxford Dictionary... just you wait and see!)

La'ers people and enjoy the sun tomorrow if you're in the UK... it's predicted that'll rain on Sunday and bank holiday (like we're surprised)... what else is new in good ole Blighty...so the 'cue (BBQ) sticks out tomorrow then I suggest. Enjoy.

The Humble Moose....

Seems like someone, whose name will not be mentioned mouthed off a bit too much yesterday... well so what! If you don't blow your own trumpet, who else will? I'd said we'd win... the score line was however 2-1 in AC Milan's favour.. :-(! Anyway, contrary to some person's opinion who said to me that it was a boring game, (obviously this was a 'blue' and we KNOW my feelings on them!) I think aside from the sad loss, it really was one of our best moments. We held possession of the game longest, unfortunately lady luck didn't smile on us and even though it looked like we would equalise ... I counted 5 times, we just weren't able to connect the ball to the back of the net. O well..... next year boys, next year! In the meantime, I have drawn up a hit list:

Number 1: Gattuso for trying to get the referee to book our players, and then ha ha he gets the first yellow card of the match! You can always count on sweet justice!
Number 2: Inzaghi for the first assist and then for the second goal.. which frankly I think should have been ruled out as an offside! Well what do I know about footie... but he goes.
Number 3: Pirlo for taking the kick (and assisting) that netted the first goal!

The Italians done away with, Man of the Match was Mr Jermaine Pennant.... and he is a 'dish' as well... yummyyyyyyyy. Anyway, like I said, see you Europe next year...and yes we will be painting the town 'RED'!
=========================================================================================
In other news it seems Channel 4/Big Brother are in the dog house over the racial remarks that were made in the Celebrity (not) Big Brother House whenever it was... don't much care for the programme anyway! The chief executive of the channel says 'clearly mistakes were made'.. you call that mistakes mate? A mistake is when you air comments like that once, even though you supposedly edit before airing! Noooo, this was just plainly irresponsible behaviour and head should have rolled over this! It is and was unacceptable airing, I mean you get over 40,000 complaints and yet do nothing! Thankfully the one good thing it did do, was make 'that' Jade Goody broke, off the shelves, out of the news and more importantly minds.. hopefully for good! Maybe I should start a 'Let's ban Jade Goody 4Ever' petition? I bet I'll have loads of people signing up to it. Wouldn't you?
=========================================================================================
Now onto the poor millionaire who has to part with £48 million.. yup that is 48 million GBP in a divorce settlement! Am all for 50-50 share when a marriage is over (though I believe when you exchange vows... till death do us part should be just that) but when you've purposely turned yourself into a housewife and refuse to return to work.... then you had better NOT expect a 50-50 split! (P.S this applies to the lazy ass man who won't get off his butt cheeks too!) Poor guy.. I do feel for him. Lady what are you going to do with the money? You really do give the rest of your species, me inclusive a BAD name! So what if you're a woman scorned.. seems like Mr John Charman was caught with his pants down (even though they claim 'she' was the catalyst to the breakdown of the marriage and not the cause... somebody please tell me what the difference is?) and now parts with 37% of his fortune which he built up on his own... o, that is aside from the fact that the ex-Mrs Charman's contribution was staying home to bring up the kids.. who are grown ass men now, so what has she been doing this last 8 years? The marriage lasted 28 years and if we assume the kids don't need looking after once they turn 18 years (p.s and they are both boys, so life's even easier)... and assume there's like 2 years between both boys....well then, tell me what she's been doing???.. Seems to me someone just sat back and lapped up life's pleasant luxuries, which she felt were her due right! Like I said 'Beverley'.... u give us hard working women a bad name! Go get a job.. it's not too late at 53!
=========================================================================================
And what's with this 'pay as you throw' policy that the powers that be are trying to implement! Apparently a resounding 62% of us are against it.. and they bloody well should be, considering how much we pay in council tax! I mean why should I be fined for not putting my bin out on bin-day.... if it's not full, why take it out? Common sense people!! And to top it all off... we have Big Brother watching us.. yup even in your wheelie bins..... you better empty it out and check it out.. you might be surprised what you find in the bottom corner of it... spooky eh? Ok, yeah The EU is apparently fining the UK 2 million pounds... apparently our landfills are shall we say 'filled'! Their problem.. if all their citizens didn't end up here, we wouldn't have over-shot our landfill allocation, now would we! Anyway am all for recycling but then again apparently the same councils 'mix up' the reusable waste! I mean what is the point of telling me you to recycle when in sorting you mix the rubbish up! Case in hand, sending a plastic bag off for recycling to... get this...... a paper recycling factory! Errrr different materials love! And while am at it... don't you DARE pick up my waste fortnightly! We already have foxes running amok...and that's with a twice weekly pick up... but then again I live in a shall we say...'nice' part of town :-D. What can I say... I love the simple pleasures of life.... especially peace and quiet! Maybe I should start a little petition.. well that is if my local council doesn't conspire to kick me out first... seeing as there's now some silly ASBO (Anti Social Behaviour Order) to boot 'uncooperative' neighbours out of their houses!! On second thoughts maybe I should just behave like a 'normal' citizen, bearing and grinning till death calls! O well, Life isn't it?

Anyway your comments are welcome on this..... pleaasssseeee let me know am not the only 'whinger' on the planet!
=========================================================================================
Anyway, watching The Bill now and can't be distracted.... sorry. Catch you tomorrow....

The Day of Separation : The boys from the Men!!

So today is the day of the UEFA Champions League Finals!! Yup, today is the day when all those bad belle souls aka the supporters of the following 3rd rate clubs. You know the ones am talking about, like AC Milan, Man U (yeah they have the nerve to say Milan will surely win... just u wait Alex!), Chelsea (the dimwits and their even more dim-witted, self professing, has a bloated opinion of himself manager called Mourinho have said we were 'lucky' to get to the finals, and it should have been them ... well get this guys, you lost... so live with it! and any others out there who have no faith in us, the Real Reds, LIVERPOOL! Anyway I wish us luck tonight and know that we will claim victory over all our detractors! O such joy it'll be to see Alex's face when we lift the cup for the 6th time! I pray God, please let it be so!

Right down to business. So much has happened this week, and it's not even over yet! I'm now become a lady of leisure since jacking it all in from my last job... not to worry the next one starts in a week and a half, so for the time being, it's 'jollof' (also called enjoyment) time. We start by mourning the loss of the Cutty Sark, Britain's and indeed the world's oldest tea-clipper (Grenwich's greatest inhabitant); which burnt at the start of the week. Luckily the masts and ropes were removed during its restoration and have escaped the fire. However it is a shame that we may never see it in its original form, aside from the masts..... one more part of history erased!

The fires have been stoked yet again on Migration/Migrants, by none other than Labour MPs! Why is it every time I see or hear the word 'migrant' I instantly think 'black' as in colour of the skin.... maybe cos am one or shall I say both.. a migrant to the UK, albeit a legal one and am black and PROUD! Anyway apparently it's used to refer to East Europeans who have trouped to 'our' :) little Island in hopes of ... well whatever it is they are hoping for. Anyway Margaret
Hodge a Labour MP for Barking, who for all we know may be an avid BNP supporter (that's our equivalent of the KKK - without teeth) wrote a piece in a well known and regarded paper stating 'we prioritise the needs of an individual migrant family over the entitlement others feel they have'. Firstly, what others is she talking about? Then does she know that there are grades of 'migrants'? For instance, my grade gives me restricted benefits, and social housing is NOT one of them... of course so long as I pay my taxes Gordon and his successor are happy.. but nope nothing else for the old girl... which quite frankly I don't care about....after all who wants to live in a high-rise in a ghetto? Ok before I get carried away... so Ms Hodge is referring to only EU migrants then... now here comes the icing on the cake... she called for council houses to be allocated on the basis of race... her words were 'we should look at policies where the legitimate sense of entitlement felt by the indigenous family overrides the legitimate need demonstrated by the new migrants'! Yet the woman cannot to save her life name one, that's right '1' British aka indigenous family who's been shunted from the housing queue! Hmmmmmmm.... me thinks the woman NEEDS to have her head checked, and then some! I mean come on... who let all the East Europeans in without thinking about putting in place controls to curtail numbers? I'll tell you who... it was none other than her boss - Tony 'the globe-trotter' Blair! (No relative of the famous Globe Trotters.. and I owe them an apology for the unfair comparison!). My solution to stop MPs opening their gobs without thinking is .... wait for it.... 'Public Slapping'... yeah we (the public who got them in, contrary to what they think, it was not their 'charm') will be lined up, waiting our turn to deliver a slap across the face (or two, depending on how dumb their public outburst has been) to the erring minister/public officer, who'll be held in the stocks! O such joy if that day could come..... no one will ever 'mis yarn' (i.e. to step out of line or talk rubbish (for want of a better word)), ever!

On a lighter note, did you hear the one about Britney 'I of the dreadful wig species' Spears during a live concert? Apparently she was caught miming when the CD she was performing to skipped , not once or twice but five times and then guess this, it stopped!!! Lol!! I wish I was there! Anyway, as if that wasn't enough, her day went from bad to worse when her head microphone broke and slipped to her neck. Poor Miss Spears...I wish her good luck in her future live performances. I must at least give her A for effort after getting rid of all that post-baby blob.... in that aspect at least I hope I can do the same when the time comes. I won't however be caught dead or alive wearing any of that tranny crap she's been snapped wearing lately, no matter how 'hot' I will look (or shall I say rather smugly.. 'do' look!).

In International news, a certain outgoing President of 'Africa's most populous country' is looking forward to retiring to his farm come May 29th 2007. Am not surprised though. The man, who is affectionately or not called 'Baba Iyabo' on his taking up office 8 years ago declared he had 20,000 Naira (about 80 GBP) in his bank account.. well his farm is now worth mmmmm 2 billion Naira! T-W-O B-I-L-L-I-O-N Naira.... a couple million dollars and even British pounds for that matter! You do the maths yourself. That is some serious 'multiplication' effect if you ask me, which you didn't, but hey.. I have an opinion on everything! You ask those who know me.

Anyway now I must prepare for my team's victory... need to pluck a few feathers, sacrifice a goat and whatever else needs to be done to guarantee Europe knows who we are!

So see you tomorrow.. I will have so much to rant about then! :-)

See you..

My Rights!

Dateline: 12:36pm and am watching the Politics Show on BBC 1 for want of a better thing to do and to avoid channel surfing (I am after all a woman :-) ).. well that is other than wonder about the flat looking for something to eat again! Can I hear you say :-O.. yeah well! Anyway there is a police chief in a town in Suffolk who is fighting to keep CCTVs off his streets. I understand where he's coming from considering I hate to feel or be 'watched'. Don't get me wrong, I have absolutely nothing to hide... the argument being if you're not guilty then you should not feel oppressed by the cameras AKA Big Brother! But tell me this, have any of you bothered to study the laws being created to support the country-wide installation of these cameras? I'll put it to you like this, your mobile phone is a sure way track you down, given that the signal it sends out will narrow you down to specific co-ordinates or at worst a quadrant of co-ordinates; what else... you're driving down a road, and street cameras ensure you have a current tax disc, and from that current insurance and soon a current and valid UK driving licence! If only George Orwell was alive now, he'd be amazed to find that his book '1984' has truly come to life! Scary! Remember the petition that was on No 10's website in February, the one to scrap the planned vehicle tracking and road pricing policy. Initially it was claimed by the government that would reduce traffic congestion.... yeah right! The true outcome from implementing this policy would have forced drivers to spend up to £200 for a tracking device and an average of £89 each month in road tolls and that would not have included costs calculated per mile for driving to for example your place of work! And how would this have worked? Simple, by putting up more cameras on the road to scan your vehicle plates, calculate how much mileage you've done and send the bill to your home address, which of course they have in their database! We could go on for ages.. I'll stop now you know am very much against big brother! Yes, some may argue many a criminal has been caught by these cameras thankfully... but like I say I'll rest my case or we could be here till tomorrow.

And O if u live in South London (shows how much am paying attention, I can't tell you which council) there is a young 'fit' black man - Shaun Bailey, a community worker and Director of 'My Generation' who is surprisingly running for a seat as a Tory! Nice eh... seems like Labour has lost their previous 'power to the people' image! Not surprised, seeing as they have been seen and infact have abused the power they were given by the people.. yes it's me and politics again, but isn't it funny that these are the same people who have accused certain individual in certain countries... (well here's a hint, a LARGE continent which they all seem annoyingly to think is one (1) country) of being erm for want of a better word 'corrupt'! Infact they have gone ahead and black-listed some other countries for the acts of some individuals (who usually are a minority) which are identical to those which they have perpetrated! Well me thinks its been a case of the pot calling the kettle black!

At this stage, my afternoon nap beckons.. toodles and may catch you later on.

First whinge of the day.. TV and News

Have you been watching American Idol? Ok, I missed it last night as I was out on a wine binge with my workmates.. yes I know, doesn't sound very good but you only live ONCE! Anyway, I can't believe those Americans!! How could they? They didn't vote to 'save' Melinda!! So now it'll be a 17 year old albeit gifted kid (Jordin) vs. the white 'beat bop' wonder (Blake) in the finals!! Honestly.. are they as deaf or in this age of P.C. (and acronyms - politically correct) 'tunefully challenged' as they are thick?? Someone tell me... please how could Melinda NOT be a sure banker for the finals? You should have seen the look on Simon Cowell's face.. disbelief, shock, dismay! Even he had thought she was a definite! Or maybe America thought that to and only casted their votes so it'd be one of the other 2 up against her. Anyway like I said, unbelievable!

O and did you watch the FA Cup Final... Ok, I tuned in after the first 90mins(I can hear all the men at this point sighing... and thinking women!), and was rooting for Man U... don't get me wrong, I can't stand either of these teams in the premiership.... And being a REAL Red staunch supporter ... aka Liverpool fan, who can blame me? .. However, when it comes to them two, I will take Man U any day, anytime!! Just to see the look of 'the agony of defeat' on Jose's face.. :). Alas I was not to be rewarded, them Man U twits allowed Drogba to score!! Unbelievable!! But o such delight it was to see him humbled at Anfield when they dared to think they'd win and go ahead to the Champions League Finals.. ha ha and ha again!! So onto Athens it is on Wednesday.. wish us luck.. hopefully and it'll go into penalties again... YES, victorious we will be. But then again, it may silence them once and for all if we whooped them 3-1 in the first 60 mins of the game itself, with NO room for further scores.. at least on their part. 'May the force be with us'.

What's next.. O I was reading the Daily Mail.. I am an avid Mail weekend reader... some say it reflects my rather 'leftist' nature.. o well, what do they know! Anyway page 3 (no, not that kind of page 3... sorry to disappoint y'all) has this story of an MP, his wife and the man he is leaving her for.. all looking chummy! It's odd to me that after 14 years of marriage and 2 kids u can leave a woman for a man... how did that happen? Or maybe I'm just old fashioned and don't understand the way of the world... but really.. and why would I if I was the aggrieved wife, want to meet the 'home-wrecker' (at the end of the day, man o, woman o... na home wrecker!) who aided in sending my marriage to the dumps?? At this point, as this is public, me thinks me should keep my comments to myself!

O and another thing, this week MPs in the UK voted to keep their spending secret from us, the public! Err guys (and gals too) have you forgotten or shall I say momentarily 'not remembered' who got you where you are today? If you have indeed suffered from a momentary lapse of memory, I'd like to remind you that's it's we - the voting public who foolishly 'allowed' you in to represent or should that be 'present' our views. It is therefore our right to hold you liable and responsible and hence therefore our right to ensure that you spend our hard-earned tax payers cash WISELY and not on such trivial things as first class tickets to wherever it is you say you go to, which usually is outside of your constituency anyway! Just in case you don't know, I for one could use MY hard earned tax to buy my pretty little feet more shoes to 'shod' them in!

So that's the end of day 1.. hope to be back 2mrw... catch u later and enjoy the rest of your evening...
